Fall colors signal a wind down in activity in the garden. Trees turning bright colors make sunsets sparkle with golden hues; colorful berries on shrubs and fall flowering perennials make this season almost as colorful as spring. Some people spend lots of energy and time 'putting the garden to bed' but I prefer to leave the seed heads on the perennials untouched, so that the birds can use them for shelter and perching..
